This thesis discusses the method to prepare polystyrene graft copolymer , such as polystyrene-co-4-methylstyrene graft polystyrene-co- 1,4-Poly -butidiene, polystyrene-co-4-methylstyrene graft polystyrene. The synthesis polystyrene-co-4-methylstyrene by metallocene catalyst. The amount of 4-methylstyrene in copolymer can achieve 20﹪,then functionalization and grafting reaction by the methyl group in 4-methy-
styrene. The functionalization includes acdic reaction and hydroboration reaction.The oxidation of polystyrene-co-4-methylstyrene to carboxylic acids by cobalts and molecular oxygen in acetic acid solution. Polystyrene-co-1,4-Polybutidiene to hydroboration by 9-BBN. A successive route to condensation graft copolymers with polystyrene-co -4-methylstyrene backbone and polystyrene-co-1,4-polybutidiene side chains. And polystyrene-co-4-methylstyrene anionic grifting polymer -ization of styrene. Selective metallation reaction of 4-methylstyrene units in the copolymer and subsequent anion graft-fron polymerization were effective to produce polymeric side chains with well-defined structure.
