The purpose of this study was to investigate the interference between simultaneous postural control and the visuospatial memory task. A counterbalanced repeated measures design combined with the modified dual-task paradigm was used for thirty-two healthy, young participants. They performed the Sensory Organization Test, Rhythmic Weight Shift Test and the visuospatial memory task under single-task and dual-task conditions. The results showed that performance of postural control and the visuospatial memory task was significantly poor under the dual-task conditions than under the single-task conditions on equilibrium scores, strategy scores, visual preference ratio, on-axis velocity and mental scores. The findings suggest that therapists might integrate the cognitive component of postural control into the treatment plan of balance training.
