First of all, display principle, structure and characteristics of the PDP are introduced. Then, the plasma gaseous discharge characteristics and mechanism of generating gray levels are described to help in understanding the PDP. A PDP exists the merits of high resolution, wide viewing angle and thin substrates; thus, it is primarily suitable for wall mounted displays used in living rooms or commercial advertisement. However, high cost and high power consumption have limited it from wide applications. In this thesis, researches on raising luminous efficiency and power conversion efficiency have been strongly emphasized. Modified energy recovery circuits are proposed to achieve the prementioned objectives. Additionally, circuit design and layout techniques are described in detail, on which a prototype of electrode driving circuits are implemented to verify the feasibility.
