Those organizations should be well-understood and well-managed so that they can better serve their members. However, research on social organizations in Taiwan is limited. Accordingly, this thesis intends to study the role of industrial association in the labor-management relationship. The population of study is members of Industrial Association of Chia-Yi County. In-depth interviews and surveys are used to collect data. The contents of survey research consist of demographic profiles of the interviewers and important issues in labor-management relationship such as labor conditions, safety and health, labor organization, cooperation and conflict between labors and employers, labor welfare, employment security etc. This study finds that safety and health, labor conditions, and cooperation and conflict between labor and employer are top three items that best fit the needs of the members of Industrial Association of Chia-Yi County. In addition, the members perceive that industrial association is crucial in responding opinions, providing diploma-level training, engaging in collective bargaining, dealing with disputes, holding inter-factory activities and others. Looking forward, industrial associations should reinforce their roles given by legislation, broaden their roles in the labor-management relationship, and promote cooperation with associations in other counties. It is expected that industrial associations can contribute to the construction of a harmonic labor-management relationship.
