Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 哲學研究所 === 89 === Traditionally, an explanation about the freedom of action is that an agent “does what he wants”. According to this explanation, we can’t know that he whether or not acts freely or voluntarily. The hierarchical view provides us the solution that refers to the statement “A wants (the second order desire) to want (the first order desire) to X”. When A has a volition to X, he will be motivated by his first order desire and his second order desire will become his volition. Basing on distinguishing the agent’s desires, this new model promotes him to identify his “real” desire. So, the hierarchical view gives us new interpretation about the freedom of action. In my thesis, I mainly discuss the hierarchical view and introduce this view into the concept of autonomy.
