Summary: | 碩士 === 國防大學中正理工學院 === 應用化學研究所 === 89 === The objective of this study is to make polystyrene spheres in the micrometer range by dispersion polymerizations. The styrene monomer was initiated by BPO or AIBN in the water, water/alcohol, alcohol disperse medium, respectively, stablized with the dispersant PVP. The Taguchi method, an experimental method, was used to evaluate these dispersion polymerizations and concluded that the concentration of initiator is the primary factor influencing the particle size of products and the concentration of dispersant is the secondary factor. The experimental results have shown that the mean diameter of polystyrene microspheres increases with increasing the concentration of initiator, whereas decreases with increasing the concentration of the dispersant. The specific surface area of polystyrene microspheres increases with increasing the concentration of dispersant, while decreases with increasing the particle size. Since the styrene monomer and alcohol are miscible well, the polystyrene particle size distribution is mono-disperse as the dispersion polymerizations use alcohol as the disperse media. The polystyrene microsphers with monodispersity were treated by the surface activation and then a copper layer was deposited on the activated surfaces by the electroless plating of copper. Due to the conductivity of copper, we hope to make the polymeric powders as the electromagnetic interference material.
