The main challenge is to maintain engine’s overall performance and overcome the problems of metal corrosion and influence on rubber components in the fuel system.
The main purpose of this research is to evaluate engine’s overall perfor-
mance by dynamic simulation which consists of preset testing procedure.
In addition, the corrosion effect on the fuel tank with gasoline methanol is evaluated along with the microstructure observation. Three important conclusions can be drawn from this research:
(1)In dynamic tests with 10% and 25% gasoline methanol, HC and CO em- missions from the engine has been greatly reduced.
(2)The corrosion level on the tank is increased with the percentage of the methanol in gasoline.
(3)Within three thousand hours, various percentages of gasoline methanol have no substantial corrosion effect on fuel tank which consist of low carbon steel.
