The PC controls the PLL system to force the DUT (VCO) to be locked in a designated frequency. If the tested VCO is locked at this frequency correctly, then the lock indicator will send the locking signal back to PC. The PC will then receive the output voltage data of the loop filter and output power data of the tested VCO. The PC repeats the same procedures at the next testing frequency. The PC will then record the oscillating frequency and output power of the VCO with different tuning voltage. Since the DUTs have different electric characteristics, we must use different parameters of loop filter to realize the testing system. In thesis, we will develop an adaptive digital loop filter to adjust the parameters of loop filter automatically while testing the DUTs. In this thesis, the design of automatic testing system will be theoretically simulated. We will evaluate the testing range with different system parameters. Especially we will use the theory to analyze the performance of digital loop filter with P controller or PD controller.
