Virtual enterprises address this issue by gathering productive resources quickly, broadly and concurrently from the participating organizations. One of the key requirements of a virtual enterprise is to develop the mechanisms to enable the integration, coordination and collaboration among the participating organizations. In this regard, the open system standards provide the required interoperability of the participating organizations’ heterogeneous systems so that the necessary data and resources may be accessed and shared. In the light of a virtual enterprise information system architecture, the thesis studies various open system products to determine each product’s scope of operation and effectiveness in system integration.
