In April, 1997, the Disabilities Protection Act issued, many funding and social security for the disabled were switched from the Social Sectors to the Labor Affairs. Under the Act, most passine support (eg. financial compensation, general training courses) were modified as a activ way, especially in the fields of disability services. They were to assist the aged and the disabled to go back to work, and also encourage them as workers and producer in their family and society. In order to raise the work efficiency of the disabled and aged, some useful assistive technologies are introduced under the Act. However, the weak situation both in body and mental of the disabled, it is very difficult to seek a suitable job for them. From this point of view, a well prepared vocational evaluation before job and a job re-design are necessary, such as shiftable or adjustable position, accessible environment, assistive appliance etc. So, the workers with disabilities then are qualified enough in the normal, competitive labor market. Also, the vocational assistive technology is useful to allow the disabled to show their potential to accommodate their jobs. This project of job re-design for the disabled employment is positively promoted by the EVTA (Employment & Vocational Training Administration), Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan, R.O.C., which is a powerful utility to help the disabled workers to solve their employment problems in direct and indirect ways. This can also assist them to overcome their vocational barriers and set their self-confidence up in job by efficiency and productivity. But, still there’re a lot of cases with failure results. In order to find the reasons out, this study will be focused on the selected cases provided by the Job Center of the EVTA in middle Taiwan. This is the first time that the assistive technologies are presented in the disabled employment and aimed to carry out their developed suggestions and as a guidance and reference to the government, when promoting projects for the disabled and aged.
