The accumulation of sorbitol and the lipid peroxidation in the lens is the major cause of cataract. The anticataract effects of nature products are explored in this studies. There are five thousands of plant species in Taiwan, in the first portion of this study, twenty-eight plants with abundant polyphenols were used to study the inhibition effects on the rat and pig aldose reductase. The inhibition of the rat aldose reductase of Eugenia uniflora Linn., Camellia candata Wall. , Camellia nokoensis Hay., Camellia tenuifolia (Hay.) Cohen-Stuart., Coptis chinensis Franch were 100 %, 82.55 %, 87.60%, 61.63 %, 100 % in the 20 g/ml conc. And the inhibition of the pig aldose reductase of Eugenia uniflora Linn., Camellia candata Wall. , Camellia nokoensis Hay., Camellia tenuifolia (Hay.) Cohen-Stuart., Coptis chinensis Franch were 100 %, 67.17 %, 87.77 %, 75.34 %, 56.20 % in the 20 g/ml conc. Furthermore, twenty-two kinds of nature flavonoids were used to study the inhibition effects on pig aldose reductase. The IC50 compare with quercetin ( positive control ;IC50 =5.05×10-2mM) of Quercitrin, Quercetin pentaacetate, Baicalein, Neohesperidin, Edultin, Myricetin, Baicalin, Nobiletin, and Morin were1.1×10-2 mM, 2.08×10-2mM, 2.21×10-2 mM, 2.47×10-2 mM, 3.30×10-2 mM, 3.48×10-2 mM, 3.60××10-2 mM, 3.97×10-2 mM, and 4.27×10-2 mM. In the next portion of this study, the same twenty-two kinds of nature flavonoids were used to study the inhibition effects on lens lipid peroxidation. The IC50 compare with Vit.
