These aim at significantly increasing both the traffic capacity of existing highways trough vehicle and roadway automation. This study integrates the automatic car-following, automatic control systems, fuzzy control and control systems of adaptive to establish an automatic car-following model. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the model, comparable to manual vehicle following. The results of this study indicates: 1.The automatic car-following model can maintain a safe distance to the vehicle ahead. This function increases the safety and encourages a more smooth driving. The following process tend to steady finally. 2.When speed is 90km/hr, the capacity is 3600(pcphpl). 3.The automatic car-following model can improve the GM-5 model in following gap, and the number of (m,l) is converge to (2.53, 6.82).
