As the change of social culture and the quality of audience, “Pi Li TV glove-puppetry” has put more emphasis on its gender performance. According to such situation and the advice of other scholars, this thesis attempts to analyze the gender discourse of “Pi Li Kuang Dau”, the most famous one in “Pi Li TV glove-puppetry”, by applying the contemporary criticism, semiotics, theories of ideology, psychoanalysis and gender studies. The subject of this thesis is to offer another explicative way of TV glove-puppetry studies and continue studies on Taiwanese puppet art after 1990. This thesis consists of three parts. First of all, I analyzed the character of male and female characters in the chapter three “Gendered characters and characters’ character”. In this part, I found only the male characters’ character has changed with the major social value and other myth, the female characters’ character still the same. Second, characters can both have masculinity and femininity or change their gender to make corss-identifiction by controlling and operating the voice and image in the chapter four “gender, sex-identity and audio-visual representation”. The last chapter “gender, sexuality and love” I discussed how the female characters show their sexuality and love under the pressure of the ideology of “Women are destroyer” in the swordplay literature.
