Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 美術學系 === 88 === The topic of this thesis is "The Cantonese Trade Paintings in Qing Dynasty-research of coast and port views." It''s a charming and meaningful research topic. I wish to get the result of recognizing the paintings in the thesis through the research method of Painting analysis, and realize the content of the China Trade Paintings. The iconography is one of the important methods in art history research. The research method in my content includes the art theory above, and also my own thoughts.
Through the thesis, I will discuss three main aspects: 1.to recognize the paintings of coast and ports views 2.to research within item topic in the thesis'' paintings 3.to research from economic and trade aspect. Through the research of the three aspects above, it would be got the aim of the thesis. In addition to, there is a valued discussing within the relation of Chinese and Western history and the China Trade Paintings. A port likes Canton that would receive the Western art and the Western culturing, at the same time it involves its tradition itself.
Of course, more research methods will be used in the thesis, like historical documents, aesthetics, art sociology and the aspects of economic and trade theories. First I discuss the question in the context, which are about the China Trade Paintings. I want to distinguish the difference of the names between the trade paintings and the export paintings. Secondly, the topics about the media, skills, manufacturers and consumers in the thesis are also very important research aspects. For example, the paintings are made and mixed by Chinese and Western art style, and is loved by Canton and foreign consumers. Through the interaction, the paintings are very popular.
Usually the paintings are made in a workshop. And every painter has his own work, each of them uses specific subject in his painting. This schedule of work is a kind of standard operation, and it will make products finish in order to supply for many consumers. In Qing dynasty , Canton exported many kinds of paintings to oversea. And these would be also the item of government exports and taxed in the period. After the war of the Opium in 1842, the China Trade Paintings in Canton declined, the other ports like Hong Kong and Shanghai arose. At the same time, in the introduction of photography, the China Trade Paintings would be replaced faster.
In summary, the Canton''s China Trade Paintings in Qing dynasty not only exist in the procession of history, and would be the merchandises in the art market today.
