It starts with an exploration of the basic concept of building blocks. Following that, it investigates the related issues involved in building blocks and architectural design to develop the framework of manipulation. Based on the framework, fifteen houses designed by Botta and Ando are analyzed. This research consists of five major parts. They are: 1. A review of related theories and the establishment of a theoretical framework: through a review of related issues of “architecture composition” and “building block method” it establishes a procedure for this research. 2. A discussion for the application of building blocks: it focuses on reviewing and understanding the basic concept of building blocks to establish the framework of manipulation. The characteristics of using building blocks and the educational applications of learning from games are discussed. 3. A correspondence between building blocks and architecture design: it discusses the relationship between the manipulation of building blocks and architecture design from the observation of architecture and the design manipulation of known architects. In addition, related theories of architecture descriptions are employed to develop the basic manipulation framework of building blocks for architecture. 4. Case studies: fifteen houses designed by Mario Botta and Tadao Ando are used as case studies (named as M.B.H and T.A.H system building blocks). It discusses questions such as how to complete the composition process of building assembly through the concept of building blocks including elements and composition rules. It also tries to discover the formal and spatial organizations of the houses through analysis. 5. Discussion and conclusions: it discusses the findings of this research. Some conclusions are drawn and future studies are suggested. 劉舜仁 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
