Description
Summary:碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 應用化學研究所 === 88 === Abstract Active oxygen species and free radicals are known to damage the biological cell membranes via oxidative stress. They are highly toxic and may cause disease such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. For these reasons, it is important to find more potent and safer antioxidants. Magnolamide, a novel phenolic amide, was recently identified from the leaves of Magnolia coco. This compound consists of a feruloyl moiety and a 2-formyl-5-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolyl-1-butylamine segment. According to literature report, some of the phenolic amides were found to have antioxidative activities such as N-trans-feruloylserotonin and N-trans-caffeoylserotonin. Due to the little amount of isolated magnolamide, the biological activity was not tested yet. Therefore, in order to confirm the structure and further study the biological activities, magnolamide and its derivatives will be prepared and the structure of which will be established by spectroscopic analysis.
