Summary: | 碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 運動教練研究所 === 88 === The purpose of the study was to investigate the training satisfaction of Division I baseball players in Taiwan, in order to understanding players’ needs. The survey instrument, include personal information, training satisfaction scale and opening questions, entitled "Training Satisfaction Questionnaire of Division I Baseball Players in Taiwan, the Republic of China" were used.
The subjects were 281 Division I baseball players of 12 teams who participated the 2000 National baseball leagues in spring were surveyed. There were 281 questionnaires returned (100 % return rate) and 270 usable questionnaires (96 % usable rate).
Data analysis in which the following methods were applied: descriptive statistics, Factor Analysis, Independent sample t-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance and Scheffe test through the use of SPSS 8.0 for Windows 98. The results of the study are as follows:
1. The overall training satisfaction of Division I baseball players in Taiwan was average level. Most of players are more satisfied with “teammates relationship” and “coach’s recognition and strength training”. However, players are less satisfied with “support of sports science” and “team welfare and salary”.
2. In different types of team, the players in military team are the most satisfied with their training and the players in social team are the most dissatisfied.
3. There are statistically significant difference exist in “coach’s ability and relationship with player”, “team performance and climate”, “support of sports science”, “training plan and content”, “tactical, theoretical and conditioning training” and “coach’s recognition and strength training” among players from the different type of teams.
4. No statistically significant difference exists in the mean score among the players of different ages, education levels, positions and years in adult baseball.
5. There are statistically significant difference exist in “coach’s ability and relationship with player” and “coach’s recognition and strength training” among players of different ages.
6. Unmarried players’ overall training satisfaction is more satisfied than married players. There were statistically significant difference exist in “coach’s ability and relationship with player”, “support of sports science”, “training plan and content”, “tactical, theoretical and conditioning training” and “coach’s recognition and strength training” between unmarried players and married players.
7. There are statistically significant difference exist in “coach’s ability and relationship with player”, “training plan and content”, “team welfare and salary”, “tactical, theoretical and conditioning training” and “coach’s recognition and strength training”, “team performance and climate” and “teammate relationship” among different education level of players.
8. There are statistically significant difference exist in “coach’s ability and relationship with player”, “support of sports science”, “training plan and content”, “team welfare and salary”, “tactical, theoretical and conditioning training” “coach’s recognition and strength training”, and “training facilities and equipment” among players of different monthly salary. However, the higher salary players are more satisfied with their training.
9. In the facet of national team player selection and training, the players who devote to adult baseball 1 to 3 years are more satisfied than players who devote baseball 4 to 6 years.
10.There are statistically significant difference exist in “coach’s ability and relationship with player”, “team performance and climate”, “support of sports science”, “training plan and content”, “team welfare and salary”, “tactical, theoretical and conditioning training”, “national team player selection and training”, “training effect”, “individual performance” and “training facilities and equipment”. However, more experienced and qualified, players are more satisfied with their training.
In conclusion, the future needs of Division I Baseball in Taiwan in the future are:
1. Improving individual skills.
2. Improving strength, conditioning and metal abilities.
3. More games and competition experience.
4. Higher quality of facilities for competition and training.
5. More and higher quality training-related equipment.
6. Better welfare and compensation/salary.
7. Better coaching abilities.
8. Better relationship between coach and player.
9. More sports science combine with training.
10. Better injury therapy and prevention support.
Based upon the results and findings of this study, the structural model for sports training satisfaction research in the future can be established.
