All data are collected from 27 main domestic banks of long history through 1995 to 1999. And the data set is an balanced panel, which we include advances, depos-its, short-term investments, and interest income as outputs and operating expense and interest expense as inputs. Then according to the newly and old bank group, analyzed the efficiency of technical, pure technical, scale, cost, and allocative etc. This research found out the following results: 1.After the financial turmoil, the technical efficiency of banking industry has signifi-cantly increased, which attributed to the old banks. But it should be improved more. The reason of technical inefficiency is primarily the pure technical inefficiencies, not scale inefficiency. And there is no significant difference in newly established banks. 2.Before and after the financial turmoil, there is no significant difference in pure tech-nical efficiency. The PTE of old banks has significantly increased after the financial turmoil, but there is no significant difference in newly established banks. 3.After the financial turmoil, The technical efficiency of banking industry has signifi-cantly increased, which attributed to the newly established banks. And the new bank group, which situated at the stage of increasing returns to scale, was enlarging its size to improve the scale efficiency. And old bank group has no significant difference. 4.Before and after the financial turmoil, there is significant difference about the cost ef-ficiency in banking industry. And that increased gradually after the financial turmoil. The allocative efficiency of old banks, having unsuitable proportion of resource, which reduced gradually after the financial turmoil.
