However, due to the diverse and ill-structured characteristics of construction technology documents, the exchange and transmission of the document information have become a much critical issue in the construction industry. In order to lessen the disadvantage of current situation, it is necessary to establish a electronic system which fulfills the standardization and information-exchange requirements. This research attempts to address the above issues by applying the SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language) and XML(Extensible Markup Language) to analyze the bridge technology documents. Main alivements, in this research are: to use SGML to analyze the bridge construction technology documents; and to use XML to develop a Network-based technology document prototype system.
