Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 流行病學研究所 === 88 === Due to acceleration of the pressure from then competition for survivals, and arrival of elderly society, the prevalence of vascular disease, mental disease and chronic disease etc. have been the important issues on the medicine and social nowadays. Recently, studies concerning the pet related health benefits revealed the possibilities of being good for health, raising self esteem and social interaction as well as improving qualities of life by owing pets. Owing pets would be a probability to achieve the health promotion, assistant therapy, and reduction of the medical expenditures. According to the mentioned above, motives for confirming exist of pets related health benefits in the Taiwan population, create this study to compare the difference between pet-owner and non pet-owner on health status and health behaviors. Results:There is no significant difference between the pet-owners and non pet-owners on the score of Short Form — 36, and no evidence can prove the associations between pet-owners or non pet-owners and ill health behaviors or take-out food or specific disease. Conclusion:Even though the pet-owner did not score highly on Short form —36, it does not suggest that there is no pet related health benefits in Taiwan populations. Studies relative to bigger scale and detailed designs with clear definitions on dependent variables and comprehensive controls of confounders, as well as diversified and specific measurements for health status or qualities of life in novel methodology, are being necessary to describe the profile of pet related health benefits effecting in Taiwan population.
