In Taiwan, only 20.5% of domestic water just are used for drinking water .Therefore , the use of reclaimed water to offset potable water demands is very effectively. It would not only be reused for non-contact usage ,including toilet flushing , floor cleaning , car washing and cooling .. etc., but also for irrigation , or even to be promoted to highly demanding usage. Traditionally , the treatment process of reclaimed water system combines biological unit with the advanced treatment methods , such as UF, RO and chemical coagulation.. etc. If the facilities are installed in the buildings , they would need a large space and cost in operation and maintenance. In this study , we apply a new technology (electro-coagulation) in place of the traditional process ,because of its advantages of a short retention time , a small scale , and automatic control. There are two phases to this study ; the first phase , we explore the current characteristics and the relationship between the operation parameters and the efficiency of the reactor ; the second phase involves recycling treatment and cost-benefit analysis. The datum of this experiment shows the reclaimed water quality are as following COD:12.5 mg/L,Turbidity:1.6 NTU , no smell and color , and the unit cost is 12 NT dallars/m3 . Consequently , electro-coagulation is a practical and competitive technology to reclaim grey water in building.
