This modularized design can be applied to several types of magnetic levitation, such as magnetic bearing and magnetic levitation vehicle. The module is developed according to the results of prototype experiments and it works as an active axial bearing in an 1-dof magnetic bearing system. After the task of system identification done by both experimental and finite element analysis methods, the stably levitative spin is achieved by the implement of the DSP (digital signal processor) based controller. The finals of this thesis is the performance testing, including rotating speed, load capacity, bearing stiffness, vibrational displacement, temperature rise and energy efficiency. There are several characteristics which differentiate this magnetic levitation module from its traditional counterparts : (1)integrating actuating and position sensing functions to form an intelligent structure. (2)modularized design allowing kinds of use. (3)mighty permanent magnet in low-leak magnetic loop providing high load-power ratio without additional heat removing system.
