The purpose of this thesis is to study the application of static synchronous condensers (STATCON) to regulate the steady-state voltage of OMEI and improve the damping of voltage oscillations after disturbances. By comparing the results from the application of static synchronous condensers (STATCON) and static var compensaters (SVC) to suppress voltage oscillations, it is found that the performance of static synchronous condenser is better than static var compensater.
