Injection-locking technique provides an efficient approach to generate stable and uniform signal sources and finds its application in spatial power combiner, phased array antenna and high frequency generators. Therefore, a proper analysis method for the injection-locking performance is useful and important in the circuit design. Conventional numerical approaches on injection-locking have the problems of large computing time and memory consuming, ill-condition, and complicated formulation. The developed two novel approaches are shown to improve these difficulties. The time-domain method is based on Laplace transform, which is modified to allow it for analyzing nonlinear circuits. A pole-extraction approach is illustrated to analyze transmission line involved circuits. The frequency-domain method uses the power series representation for the phasor analysis of nonlinear circuits. This method is similar to the Volterra series approach. However, it is much easier in formulation and more suitable for numerical analysis. Circuits of injection-locked oscillator (ILO), subharmonically injection-locked oscillator (SILO) and injection-locked active antenna array (ILAAA) are analyzed using these two approached. Both numerical and measurement results are shown in good agreements. The developed time-domain and frequency-domain methods can also find applications in the other nonlinear microwave circuits.
