Characterized by its column-beam structure, “modular planning” has been advocated since 1930s to integrate indoor space modular coordination systems pertaining to furniture, bookstacks, and stack aisles. With modular planning, library buildings are capable of meeting functional demand, and making alterations in line with future changes. The bookstack areas constitute the major part of library. They contain a considerable amount of bookstacks and a voluminous collection of books. As a result, they are also considered the most important part of library. In light of this, the modular coordination situation of the bookstack areas should be carefully studied prior to the architectural design of library building. In recent years, many universities in Taiwan launched a series of massive construction work to build main libraries, which could house a huge collection of books. However, the distances between columns as well as bookstacks were different in each library. Some of the libraries appeared to be hollow and empty, while some far too cramped. They were both the results of poor modular coordination. This paper therefore looked into the basic information and the present modular coordination situations of nine university libraries in Taiwan. The investigation covered a collection of relevant illustrations, and interviews with experts so as to gather the thoughts of library designers on the application of modular coordination in their works. A variety of cases were then compared to single out major elements that influence modular coordination for further analysis, such as the shape of a bay, columns, bookstacks, stack aisles, and the layout of basement parking lots. The paper also stated the significance and the important check points of those elements. The analysis of the modular coordination situations in the bookstack areas indicated an inverse ratio relation between space quality and the volume of book collections. The owners’ attitudes and the rationales for the construction of the new libraries also had impact on how modular coordination was implemented. Finally, the paper put together the result of case studies as well as the analysis of the elements that have influence on library modular coordination to lay out a modular coordination planning process. The process expounds the planning approach and steps, and the important check points for modular coordination. Moreover, it designates suggested specifications for each element and conducts case simulations under different scenarios. Hopefully, the process can serve as a reference to architecture designers as well as library curators in future library design. 黃世孟 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 120 zh-TW |
