Therefore, we have to control the features of the DRAM industry and to use our present predominant conditions so as to win the victory in the severe competition of the DRAM industry. The object of the research of the present paper is to understand the current conditions and the entire tendency of the DRAM industry of our country by an analysis concerning the DRAM industry so as to achieve the following purposes: 1. Understanding the competitive advantage of the Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers in the worldwide DRAM market by means of a proper analysis method concerning the DRAM industry. 2. Inspecting the historic track during the DRAM development of our country to discuss the strategy of obtaining success that is accommodated by the Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers. 3. Analyzing the strategy of the global leading manufacturers to find the common drawbacks of the DRAM manufacturers of our country so as to propose proper suggestions for guiding the direction of future development of the industry, thereby providing reference to the government when deciding the policy of industry and providing reference to the manufacturers when developing the strategy. The structure of the analysis of industry essentially consists of the analysis of the current conditions of the industry; the analysis of the features of the industry, and the analysis of the tendency of the industry. The object of the analysis of the industry is to understand the connection of the industry, the features of the technology, economics of the scale, elasticity of the price, the life cycle of the industry and the products, the main factors of achieving success, attractiveness of the industry, and the obstructions of in/out, so that the above-mentioned features can be used as the basis of analysis of the competitive advantage of the industry. The analysis of the competitive advantage of the industry uses the structure of an analysis proposed by Porter (1980) so as to understand the strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat of the Taiwanese DRAM industry, and also uses the Diamond model proposed by Porter (1990) concerning the competitive advantage of nation so as to analyze the reasons of formation of the competitive aaadvantage of the Taiwanese DRAM industry. The collected information and data are properly arranged according to the structure of analysis to obtain an initial conclusion. In addition, three domestic representative DRAM manufacturers are chosen for analyzing the strategy of management thereof so as to propose a complete report of research and so as to propose proper suggestions for the future development of the Taiwanese DRAM industry according to the basis of this report. Accordingly, by means of analysis of the industry, we know that the competitive advantage of the DRAM industry of our country is concluded as follows: 1. The excellent ability of management of production. 2, The leading technology of the manufacturing processes. 3. The entire support industry. 4. The healthy financial structure. 5. The excellent human resource. 6. The support of the policy of the government. It is found that the strategy accommodated by the domestic DRAM manufacturers includes: 1. The strategic alliances. 2. The vertical integration. 3. Diversification which includes: (1) Foundry; and (2) stretching the product line. For obtaining a long-term competitive predominance, the present report proposes the following suggestions: 1. Promoting the co-operative relationship of the domestic DRAM industry. 2. Concentrating the resource on developing the core business. 3. Accelerating to cultivate technicians skilled in the technology of the semi-conductor. 4. Building and extending the ability of developing the industry to the overseas so as to rapidly respond to the requirements of the market and to avoid the risk.
