This system was about creatural gene, population, food chain, and so on. It would be conducive to reinforce the motivation of learning science, improving the effects of instruction. The purposes of this study were (1) to create a Web-based Computer Assisted Instruction concerning biological evolution; (2) to develop this CAI on the basis of Genetic Algorithms; (3) to compare science achievement of elementary students when using this CAI as well as traditional instruction. The sample was 74 5th grade students in total. Among them thirty-seven students accepted this CAI, and the other thirty-seven students accepted traditional instruction treatment. The result was that with the help of this CAI could efficiently improve students'' science achievement, contrasting with traditional classroom-based pedagogy. K. T.
