Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立清華大學 === 電子工程研究所 === 88 === We fabricate single-mode side-polished fibers in conjunction with a large curvature radius on Si substrates. These samples not only show free of scratches in polishing, but also have excellent surface flatness. From extrapolation and the liquid-drop tests, we experimentally estimate our samples as sensitive as 200 dB at the specific wavelength operation. To the best of our knowledge, this fabrication result is the best compared with those published literatures. These precision polished fibers enable us to investigate the propagation constant of the guided fiber mode in various conditions. In this thesis, we investigate the variations of the original guided mode, i.e., the phase variations of the propagation constant, of side-polished fibers in a known low-index medium. To facilitate our experiments, we polish UV-induced, intra-core fiber Bragg gratings instead and investigate the Bragg wavelength shift using an optical spectrum analyzer in the conditions concerned. In this thesis, fundamentals are explained in detail and our experimental result can be fitted well with the theoretical result. Studied in this thesis are fundamental problems, but the results are fruitful in developing fiber-optic devices.
