Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 英語學系 === 88 === English is taught as a foreign language in Taiwan. It is especially important for the students of the Chinese Air Force Academy. The Air Force is a most technically advanced service, so it requires the soldiers to be intelligent and knowledgeable. Therefore, it is essential to create a supportive learning evnironment for them. Based on recent developments in formation technology, network instruction was applied to teach students more effectively in the hope that they could enhance their English learning and therfore improve their English abilities. In addition, the Internet-based environmetn on the World Wide Web also provides a variety of tools and methods to help evaluate the learning process of English. The Computer Language Instruction Model (CLIM) was designed for making use of the valuable multimedia and hypermeida resources to assess students'' abilities of retriveing informaiton and learning effectiveness in their languae acquisition. The students used it to develop their performance skills. The comptuer model was also an effective tool to direct students to explore and apply the World Wide Web. This paper attmepts to highlight some significant issues of applications of and evaluations in network instruction. The goal is to provide suggestions to improve the English teaching method throught the Internet.
