In the CALS strategy Product Date Management (PDM) system can integrate all information in the life-cycle of a product. All steps in manufacturing and marketing can have a consistent information. Configuration Management (CM) is part of a PDM with which the requirement of configuration control and maintenance can be supported. Digital files and data are always the primary concerns in an enterprise or in the PDM system. However, this concern is not enough in looking for accuracy in engineering. Therefore, CM becomes the important component of the PDM system. We may find an example in Hua-Kuang company that the CM is not fully implemented in implementing a big project. In this thesis, all concepts of CALS strategy, concurrent engineering, PDM, CM, and Hua-Kuang project are integrated to support a Hua-Kuang project. The objective is to set up an object-oriented prototyping. A software, SmarTeam for PDM, is applied to design and implement the prototype system. All interactive environments in the development of a part is supported and implemented. Experimented results of the prototyping system demonstrate the feasibility and advantages of the proposal idea. The proposal system is believed to be available in maintenance of big engineering projects, and improve information accuracy.
