A cross-sectional research and convenience sampling approach were applied to recruit 42 cases who were receiving asthma therapy. Those cases were based on the out-patients at the Pediatric Allergy Department in three area hospitals in northern part of Taiwan. By using constructive questionnaire and interviews, the cases'' demographic data, the stress level and their knowledge about the disease were collected. In addition, data were statistically analyzed by the method of T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson''s Correlation. The major findings were as follows: 1. Given an order from high to low, the frequency of the adolescents'' stressors that originated from the disease and its therapy were: (1) school work (meanfsw=1.26), (2)family stress(meanffs=0.93), (3)the disturbance of symptoms and therapies (meanfds=0.7), (4) social relationship(meanfsr=0.61) and (5)physical stress(meanfps0.56). 2. The respondents ranking the impact of the stress indicated that (1)school work(meanisc=1.16), (2)family stress(meanifs=0.98) , (3)the disturbance of symptoms and therapies(meanids=0.79), (4)physical stress (meanips=0.73) and (5) social relationship(meanisr=0.69) were the strongest to the weakest impact on their disease. 3. In the relationship between the stress and demographic character, the age grade was a variable influenced the adolescent the most. The highest the grade ( the 9th grade), "school work" was the stress (mean = 1.33) that had the most prominent impact among the variables. The participant who had no compliance had the highest disturbance coming from symptoms and therapies (mean = 1.56). 4. In the relationship between the stress and asthma status, the type of vaporize therapy was the most influencing variable. The most types of vaporize therapy were employed, "school work" was the stresssor affected the most (mean = 2.19). 5. There is no significant difference in the relationship between the stress and knowledge about asthma. However, negative correlations were showed that the poorer knowledge the adolescent had, the higher the influence level of stressors(school work , social relationship , family stress, physical stress) were affected( r = -0.216, -0.069, -0.234, -0.222). The significant negative correlation was found in the disturbance of symptoms and therapies (r = -0.307, p< 0.05). 6. There were significant positive correlations among school works, family stress, the disturbance of symptoms and therapies, social relationship, and physical stress (r=0.235~0.792, p<0.05). These findings presented that the higher frequency of the stressors, the stronger influences were. This study did explore that asthma and its related therapies for some adolescents were a stressful life event in certain degree. The results of this study, with no doubt, increase health professionals'' understanding of these youths'' stressors and could provide guidelines for the quality improvement of nursing care.
