Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導系 === 88 === The purpose of this study is to understand the experience of depression in the growing process of female university students, to understand how they cope with the depression and how they recuperate from it, and to understand how they think about their experience. This study adopted qualitative research method. Data were obtained by semi-structured interviews with 9 participants. All of them were interviewed twice. The analysis revealed that the experience of depression consists of two mutually influencing parts and each part including several constituents. These invariant constituents were often not independent events but were inextricably related as a whole. The first part is the " Changing individual " including : 1) the change of self-concept; 2) the mixed change of emotion and cognition; 3) non-constructive attitudes and behaviors; 4) helplessness and hopelessness; 5) suicidal ideation and behavior; 6) physical symptoms. The second part is " Alienation between individual and the interpersonal world" including : 1) hiding and separating self from other people; 2) having alienated attitudes toward others and environment; 3) the feelings of alienation; 4) negative influence from interpersonal relationships and environment. The experience of coping with depression and recovering from it includes five interrelated parts. Each part also includes several constituents. The first part is " Motivated to change ". The second part is " Self-esteem and congruence between different part of self ". The third part is " Constructive attitudes and behaviors ". The fourth part is " Appropriate interaction between the individual and interpersonal world ". The fifth part is " Leaving depressive state and alleviating from symptoms ". Finally, conclusions are made and suggestions are proposed according to the results of this study.
