To fulfill the research purpose, the results literature review about theories of fire safety cognition and attitude was adopted to form the basis of this study. A questionnaire survey was also used to collect the empirical data of this study. There were 1489 randomly sampled students from 18 vocational industrial high schools, who responded to the two instruments, “Student Fire safety Cognition Scale”, and the “Student Fire safety Attitude Scale” developed by the researcher. The statistics procedures employed for the results of the survey about the distribution of basic data were the frequency distribution, percentage, means, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, scheffe method, and pearson’s product- moment correlations. The conclusion of this research were as follows: 1. The vocational industrial high school students need to promote their fire safety cognition. Totally speaking, students do not have enough fire safety knowledge. The students scored low on “Fire knowledge”, “Fire system”, “First aid for fire”. For this reason, fire safety education needs to be emphasized. 2. Fire safety attitude of students should be strengthened. For the research results, fire safety attitude of the students tended to be positive. In other words, students have a great sense of crisis and learning desire for fire safety. 3. Significant relationships existed between fire safety cognition and attitude, and some independent variables. There were significant differences on the fire safety cognition scores of the survey among students with different study field and school location. Meantime, there were no significant differences on the fire safety attitude scores of the survey among students with different sex, grade, study field, school location and Social-Economic Status (SES). 4. There was a positive relationship between the students’ fire safety cognition and their fire safety attitude. 5. The fire safety education of the vocational industrial high school students should be planned, and kept up to date. Furthermore, education administration should plan some teaching activities of fire safety for students. Finally, some recommendations for propaganda works, development and execution of curriculum, teaching works, planning for future, and further study of fire safety education were suggested.
