In this study, we use the double-polytropic laws or modified CGL equations to close the Hall MHD equations to describe the plasma phenomena on the order of ion inertial length. These models are first used to examine how the Hall current may affect the linear MHD wave propagation in an anisotropc plasma. One-dimensional nonlinear anisotropic Hall MHD numerical codes are then developed to simulate the nonlinear evolution of Hall MHD waves. It is shown that slow and fast shocks with thickness of a few ion inertial lengths may form through the nonlinear steepening of the corresponding large amplitude waves.
