The polluted natural drains can be clarified by self-purification process, however the natural self-purification rate is very limited. For researching the enhanced purification process to reduce the loading in the drains and the rivers, a pilot scale of contact aeration channel process was settled at the riverside of Dar-Chow drainage. The best operation condition is required in order to find the designing parameters and the removal model. Two architect channels filled with bio-cord and honeycomb-medium respectively were aerated to maintain the channels under aerobic condition. The result shows that the best operation was under the HRT of 4 hours as the filling ratio of the bio-cord and the honeycomb are 38% and 50% respectively, meanwhile the removal rate of SS, BOD, COD and NH3-N were 40~60%, 65~80%, 36~43% and 34~47%. The nitration rate was 46~57%. This also shows that the contact aeration channel process can provide a successful experience of reducing the pollution in rivers.
