An approach called modified Doppler power spectrum (MDPS) method is proposed to study this problem. This approach combines the cross polarization discrimination (XPD) resulted from randomly-oriented scatterers as well as reflectors, and the cross power patterns induced by the operator''s body. To validate the results of the MDPS method, a second approach called direct discrete multipath (DDM) method is also presented. It assumes that the multipath is discrete, the incident waves are distributed with an uniform distribution, and the polarization angle are distributed with an a-profile probability density function (PDF). Two modulation schemes, digital FM and π/4-DQPSK, are used in the computer simulation. The performance evaluation is based on the error vector magnitude (EVM) and bit error rate (BER). Computer simulation results of communication performance of the portable radiophone influenced by the human body are useful for the antenna/RF design and the link budget consideration of the portable wireless communication systems.
