Abstract:
History is the record of process of the human-being’s activities, and architecture is the specific witness of history. By means of the architectural history of different periods, people can realize the trace of past activities, and therefore they can research the main affective factors in the changing process and the deep meaning involved which will be the mirror in the future.
Administration, as the administrative scholar Tan, Jenn - Chuu defined,is” The simplest explanation is the propelling or management of public affairs, and the so-called “Public Administration” in England and in America, (Chen,Der-Yeu,1996:P1∼4)while “Administrative Center ”is the center of propelling or managing public affairs, and that is the Center of the Public Administration.
Kaohsiung, the second large city in Taiwan, is also the second large metropolitan district which is only second to Taipei City. The city development of Kaohsiung began at individual agricultural inhabitant development, and went through Ming and Ching Dynasty periods, the Japanese - ruling period, and the period after Taiwan’s Restoration Day in 1945. With so many different periods, it became the scale as today . With the different period history development, the administrative frames and divisions of Kaohsiung changed many times, and so that its administrative centers had different functions, location-districts and architectural-techniques.The transformation in different periods was due to different affective factors. If we can realize the development and transformation in different periods, and research its main affective factors , it will help us do much good to the planning and construction of the administrative centers in Kaohsiung in the future, and it will promote the propelling and management in Kaohsiung.
To sum up , the study stands at the viewpoint of architectural history , so as to study the development and transformation of the administrative centers in Kaohsiung in different periods , and to look for the main affective factors and its meaning involved . The main factors that affecting the transformation of the administrative centers include six:1.The change of the roles and the functions of the administrative centers;2.The substitution of the political right and the change of the policies;3.The construction and the expanding of Kaohsiung Harbor;4.The excution and the guide of the urban planning;5.The growth of the population,inhabitant and city;6.The development of the traffic transportations and industries. The main contents of the study include five chapters as followed:
Chapter 1. Introduction
Chapter 2. The period of Ming and Ching Dynasty (Before 1895)
Chapter 3. The period of Japanese ? ruling (1895∼1945)
Chapter 4. The period after Taiwan’s Restoration Day (After 1945)
Chapter 5. Conclusion / The main affective factors of the transformation of the administrative centers in Kaohsiung
