Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 物理學系 === 88 === In this thesis we discussed the basic characteristics of a variety of vertical surface emitting lasers (VCSELs), such as PI curve, wavelength, pattern, polarization, relative intensity noise (RIN), and modulation bandwidth. These VCSELs included the VCSEL numbered as 5F40、5A40、4F20、LEDtype、5F40B provided by the National Chiao Tung University and the one from Honeywell. As to the capability of fiber-link communication, we found that the modulation bandwidth of VCSEL can be enhanced by using the intrinsic whispering-gallery mode from an oxide-confinement VCSEL (4F20). A good alignment tolerances of ±10mm can be easily achieved where output power remains high.
