The Teng-Zhi Forest Recreation Area was chosen for empirical study. In this research, the trails were divided into three types, the semi-modern one, the semi-primitive one, and the primitive one by reviewing these theories of LAC & ROS. This study investigates the visitors’ preferred setting attributes as well as their acceptable limits, and estimates their preference on trail types in light of personality and recreation motivation by means of questionnaire. The results lead to: 1. No matter what setting attributes of trail types are, the results visitors considered are same, ranked as nature circumstances, trail characteristics, trail facilities, and management features. 2. No matter what nature circumstances of trail types are, the consequences visitors thought are same, ranked as vegetation, geology, species, and historic features. 3. Regardless of the trail characteristics , tourists have same preference, ranked as scene, material, wasting time, width, and difficulty;however, the acceptable limits are different between material and width. 4. In spite of different trail facilities, they emphasized the same requirement, ranked as interpretive signs, benches, viewing platforms, security facilities, medical treatment, and parking lot;nonetheless, the acceptable limits differ in medical treatment. 5. Despite of different management attributes, the requirement they emphasized are same, ranked as the clear environment, surrounding education, interpretation service, tourist controlling;the acceptable limits are different in the clear environment and explanation service. 6. The tourists’ personalities and recreation motivation will affect their preferred setting attributes of trails and acceptable limits. The personalities in this research include sexes, ages, occupations, and education degrees. Lo Shaw-Lin 羅紹麟 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 80 zh-TW
