Understanding of the health care needs of these patients is helpful for patients'' recovery. The purposes of this study were : (1) to understand what health cares that patients feel they need, (2) to describe the importance of selected health care needs to CABG patients, (3) determine if these health care needs are met, (4) to find source to meet the patient needs, and (5) explore the correlation and predictor of health care needs. Seventy-four subjects were recruited by convenience sampling from three medical centers and one regional hospital in southern Taiwan. A self developed instrument - Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patients'' Health Care Needs Inventory was utilized. Percentage, mean, and standard deviation. T test, one-way ANOVA, Persons product''s product moment correlation, and Stepwise multiple regression were performed to analyze the data. The major findings of this study are the following: (1) Greater than 80% of the patients reported they need health care , psychosocial needs , especially. The itern "how to prevent and manage postoperative complication" was mentioned most frequently. (2)The level of importance for health care needs was between "importance" and "very importance". Physical needs were ragarded most important than others. The most important item was "how to reduce risk factors of cardiac disease". (3)About half needs of patients'' demand was unmet. Informational needs were least satisfied. "To receive instructions about the return to sexual activity" was most unmet item but, however, medical staff tend to provide physical health care. The need of "how to reduce risk factors of cardiac disease" was thought most important but unmet in 70.4% of patients. Less than 50% of patients were met in five of twelve needs items that were mentioned by more than 90% of patients. (4)Doctor is regarded as the most powerful source to meet the patients'' care needs. (5)The fators influncing health care needs, informational needs and psychosocial needs were gender, educational level, socioeconomic status and length of hospital stay after surgery. (6)The stepwise multiple regression showed that the best predictors of health care needs included gender, socioeconomic status and length of hospital stay after surgery. These factors accounted for 22.3% of the variance of health care needs. The predictors of informational needs were educational level and length of hospital stay after surgery. These factors accounted for 25.2% of the variance of informational needs. Educational level was the predictor of psychosocial needs and accounted for 15.9% of the variance of psychosocial needs. The relations between demographic characteristics or illness status and physical care needs were not significant. Our study may act as reference for the nurses to care the postoperative patients for CABG. We suggested that nurses should assess patients'' needs with needs assessment instrument and provide full health care available to them. In addition, the care givers have to examine the proper care plan and it''s execution to rise the satisfication rate. Sheila Sheu 許淑蓮 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 98 zh-TW
