The effects of La2O3, Ga2O3 and GeO2 content on the properties and structure of the lanthanum gallogemanate glasses were evaluated. The IR spectra of these glasses suggest that Ga amd/or Ge might present tetrahedra (fourfold coordination) and octahedra (sixfold coordination). These glasses are transparent over frequencies ranging from the near ultraviolet (0.35μm) to the mid-IR (6~7μm) and show ionic bond behavior in their structure.
