Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 中文系 === 88 === For centuries, San Yan has become not only the most popular but also the well known traditional Chinese classical fiction. The essay contains three parts. First of all, it focuses on the art of details-description of San Yan: 1.exquisite but not trivial; 2.accrurat but not blurred; 3.essential but not verbose; 4.profound but not superficial; 5.natural but not hypocritical. Also, the essay shows the art of mental-state-description of San Yan. The traditional Chinese classical fiction tends to easily ignore the mental state of characters, but San Yan’s author apparently paid special attention to the art of mental-state-description of San Yan. He was very good at describing the characters’ mental-state by using dialogue between two conflict people, which enables readers to see the deepest part of the characters’ soul. The third part of the essay is the plot of San Yan, including coincidence, suspend, and a hint foreshadowing later developments. These three writing sills all contribute to make the story more vivid and convert the rhythm of the processing procedure of the plot, which brings the strong feelings to readers’ mind and creates a state that could make the effect of the story unforgettable.
