According to the literature review, the two road widths and the eight planting forms in median strip were chosen as independent variables, while preference of the users and security, aesthetics, amenity and openness of the road were as dependent variables. Computer animation was appropriate to simulate 16 different situations for the questionnaire of architectural and landscape architectural students in Fung-chia and Tung-hai University receptively. The number of valid samples was 500. Frequency, repeated measures ANOVA, correlation analysis and regression were used as methods of analyzing data in order to describe the results and to test research hypotheses. The major results were summarized as follows: 1.Road width and planting form on median strips is influential to the preference of the user and the security, aesthetics, amenity, and openness of the road. 2.Under the interacting process of the road width and planting form, the preferred interval of road trees are, in terms of, 4m, 8m, and 12m, which means denser alignment are more preferred. 3.Likewise, the influencing factors of the user resulted from different professional backgrounds are their assessment to the value of security, aesthetics, amenity and openness, while the value of preference is not influenced by professional background. Non-professional background group in environmental planning/design put more emphasis on the factor of aesthetics, while professional group stress more on security, amenity and openness. 4.This research results in a multivariate regression equation in which amenity and aesthetics are two of the most significant influential factors. The value of preference is influenced by openness, except the non-plant form. Likewise, the value of preference is influenced security on the 2 road-lines with shrub, 2 road-lines with 4m interval tree, 2 road-lines with 8m interval tree and 4 road-lines with non-plant, 4 road-lines with shrub, 4 road-lines with 8m interval tree and 4 road-lines with shrub and 4m interval tree.
