Especially, after 921 earthquake, ecological environment, geology, the life of people, production and constructions had been injured seriously in Da-Keng slopeland area. It is urgent to propose a suitable planning about the way of future development for Da-Keng slopeland. For these reasons, this study was to propose a procedure of zoning delimitation and the result can serve as the basis of framing rebuilding plan. This study applied multivariate analysis, remote sensing, and GIS for zoning delimitation and it could be a model for future zoning delimiting in slopeland management. During the analysis process, it can also reach the goal of economically and rapidly understand the environmental properties of each zone and apply suitable use for Da-Keng slopeland area. First of all, this research concludes 8 attributes (19 environmental variables) which will be put into multivariable analysis, such as terrain, microclimate, soil, geology, the distribution of animals and vegetation, surface water, land use, and location etc., through literature review. But before multivariable analysis was proceeded, the absolute limited area must be excluded. Then, primary study procedure will be proceeded by desegregating into three parts. The first part was using factor analysis to simplify related variables to 6 common factors that were named ‘vegetable growing factor’, ‘high development factor’, ‘low/medium development factor’, ‘potential unstable slopeland factor’, ‘microclimate factor’ and ‘surface water factor’ respectively. The second part was delimiting through out entire study area to 5 homogeneous zones by cluster analysis. While the third part was to estimate the effectiveness of cluster analysis and resulted to 91.97%. As a whole, the result of cluster analysis was acceptable. Next step was to discuss the characteristic of each homogeneous zone and offer it the way of future development. According to the characteristic of each zone, the results of this study are as follows: the first zone could be low density residential use or leisure farming use; the best policy of the second zone is forest resource preservation; the third zone is properly to be agriculture use; the fourth zone is suggested to be civil leisure forest area; the fifth zone is also suitable for low density residential use. Finally, this research analyzes and compares the land use change detection from 1987 to 1997 for Da-Keng slopeland area, the evidence indicates that the change coincide with current residential or tourism facilities use. Therefore, it concluded the majority of landform transition were from original forest or agriculture land to residential or tourism facilities use. Most of those changes were occurred in the first and fifth zone, and the second zone was the fewest one, which proved the fact about rapidly increasing case of application development in recent years. The results show that it is helpful to planners by integrating multivariate analysis, RS and GIS to zoning delimitation in the environmental sensitive area management, especially in extensive slopeland.
