Because of the large variations of electric power when starting and breaking the trains, there arises a lot of harmonics in the system. The nonlinear load may cause a lot of harmonics, too. These affect the power quality and may misoperate the protection relays.
The research aims at the effects of harmonic to the differential protecting special transformer. The CA type differential relay is used to protect the special transformer, and the Scott transformer is selected. Different combinations of harmonics are need for testing. A relationship between the tripping time of the differential relay and the harmonics quantity are found. We expect the results will be helpful and useful to the applications of differential relays to special transformer.
