Abstract
As the from of design thesis, aiming at finding out the composition mode and the good quality held in the traditional city space from the existing old buildings of a traditional city settlement as the reference for the new architectural design. The Central Street in Ma-gong of Peng-hu is used as a case study subject to analyze the architectural design.
Peng-hu is one of the earlier developed areas in Taiwan, and the area of Central Street is the most well-reserved old city space in Peng-hu, which is developed from Ching Dynasty. From the analysis of this area, we can explore the construction mode in cities and architectures before the industrial civilization. The most valuable part of this area is not only the visible space and buildings but also the living style since both of them are valuable culture heritages. So far this area in under the preserving project of culture style; therefore, this dissertation is working based on a real design project. From the process of designing, we can find out all the difficulties that a traditional settlement meets when it tries to preserve its traditional culture, and then think out the possible ways to solve the problems. The process of this dissertation can roughly be divided into the following four steps. First, recording the original space and building condition for preserving database. Second, analyzing the composition of the space and buildings for the further considering of the architectural design. Third, designing the housings. Fourth, considering the problems that happen during the process of designing. The chapters abstract of this dissertation is as follows:
1. Introduction﹕Description of the motive, objective, basic concepts and the theories of design operation used in this dissertation.
2. The Basic Information of Central Street﹕Description of the history and society of Central Street as well as the introduction of the existing space condition of it.
3. The Architectural Type of Central Street﹕Description of the characters and composition mode of Central Street for understanding its composition rules.
4. The Space Pattern﹕From the repeatedly similar space pattern to interpret the individual unit spaces and their relationships among themselves on the composition rules, aiming at exploring the rules of architectural composition. Besides, this chapter also has the objective to record the characters of the existing city space.
