Focused on the subject, ath? the treatise studies on the qualitative relations among the three dimensions-body, mind, and soul. Its purpose is to capture the modern ideas and aesthetic gist through the pictures made by artists, and to provoke delicate feelings of space designers while wielding their pens in bath space designs. The research method is to construct a matrix database and a chronological structure by the text of modern pictorial art. Based on the extensive sources of art criticism, poetry, literature, and cinema, the study exquisitely deals with the atmosphere, mood and meanings evoked by the figures, objects, and space in paintings in order to establish a macroscopic discourse on bath and space. The research range covers the modern paintings which relate to the subject of ath? and its content is elaborated in these three categories as follows: The 1st category refers to the dimension of body clearance, which is given a minute description in Chapter 2, he Clearance of Body? It deals with the three major topics of bath history, bath forms and bath places respectively. The 2nd category refers to the dimension of bathing mentality and sentiments, which is given a detailed explanation in Chapter 3, ensuality and Sexuality? To begin with a bath trilogy, it deals with the three major topics of the process, the sensuality and the sexual space of bathing. The five senses and the inner sexuality of common people are the entry into the topic of space in question. The 3rd category refers to the dimension of the clearance of the soul, which is fully explicated in the chapter, he Purity of the Mind? It deals with the two major topics, the meaning of devotional space and the life of bath. It probes into the meanings of baptism and the ritual of foot-washing. Moreover, it inquires into the three topics: the bath of the beginning of love and life, the relation between love and bath, and all the bathing customs from birth to death. The results of this research suggest that the thoughts and context of body and space aesthetics be considered in the deciding process of men, objects and space subjects, and be included in the conceptual elements of interior design. In addition to the satisfaction of basic functions, it is even more important to yield deeper meanings of space, not merely the apparent visual space. Men could enjoy and create the bathing space which benefits the body, the mind and the soul by the perception of artworks and body sensuality. In brief, it deserves commendation that designers should learn cross-disciplinarily and strengthen their art appreciation and perception. By the enrichment of their artistic ability, it is probable to lift the standard of design service. Chie-Peng Chen 陳其澎 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 173 zh-TW
