Electronic industry has some known features as short life cycle and high-tech rapidly changing and unpredictable market. For the high-tech continuing progression and the market competition caused the electronic product life cycle to become shorter and shorter. Thus, adopting proper technical strategy can reduce the uncertain risk of market and approach better performance. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the types of technical strategy and new product performance. Theoretically, the research concept of this paper is based on “Resource-Based model” and “Competitive-Advantages Environment model.” That is “how does a company adopt the proper technical strategy to approach the expected new product performance. This study divided four categories of technical strategies named as “emphatic innovator,” “excellent competitor,” “process developer” and “defensive imitator.” By literature review , this paper choose two important factors , technical capability and product life cycle , as the mediate variables. The research targets are the companies of electronic industry. We mailed 400 questionnaires and received 108 effective questionnaire. The conclusions as shown below: 1. The firms that adopt proper technical strategy could have better new product performance. 2. Next, the two mediate variables as below: (1)technical capability A. The firms have higher technical capability match “excellent competitor” strategy could have better new product performance. B. The firms that is lower level of technical capability match “process developer” or “defensive imitator” strategy could have better new product performance. (2)products life cycle A. The firms that choose “excellent competitor” strategy while the PLC is in introduction and growth period could have better new product performance. B. The firms that choose “Process developer” strategy while the PLC is in maturity period could have better new product performance.
