Data were collected through longitudinal survey that included 41 samples who aged 60 years old or more. The conducting period was from November 1999 to January 2000. In addition, the 41 samples were those experienced falling and resided in Taipei city, Taipei County, and Taoyuan County after discharge. Major finding of this study included: (1) 58% stumbled before falling ; 29.3% fell at outdoors ; 46.3% fell during walking ; 75.6% indicated that they were afraid of falling again after the first falling ; (2)The demand of health care need decreased with the time passed, the degree of satisfaction of health care need increased with the time passed ; (3) in the first month, Prognosis included: ADL and IADL function ; the improvement of cognitive function ; health status ; the decrease of depression ; and the increased of the degree of satisfaction of health care need. Additionally, after the third month, prognosis had an obvious improvement in each field ; (4)the stepwise regression revealed that the cognitive function before falling, self-awareness health status, ADL function was significant predictors of prognosis at discharge. the self-awareness health status before falling, tendency to stumble, to recover status, ADL and IADL function and activity ability were significant predictors of the first month of prognosis . the self-awareness health status before falling, tendency to stumble, chronic diseased, to recover status, ADL and IADL function were significant predictors of the third month of prognosis . To recover status was significant predictor of the first month of health care need . To recover status, prefall family function and rehabilition frequency were significant predictors of the first month of health care satisfaction . Rehabilition frequency and IADL function were significant predictors of the third month of health care satisfaction . The reults of this study can help to develop a scale of assesing health care need and provide appropriate dicharge planning among elderly with a medical care fall. keywords: elderly fall, medical care fall, health care needs.
