The function of an air-condition system generally includes air-supply, air-exhaust and air-recirculation. Because of the operation of air-conditioning, a pressure distribution is created in the working site. The pressure distribution affects the air-flow pattern and contamination distribution in the working-site. However, the performance of the air-supply, air-exhaust and air-recirculation are also affected by the pressure distribution. Therefore, the contamination distribution and air-conditioning performance becomes a coupling problem. In this study, a air-flow network model is used to solve above problem. The pressure in the working space and the air-conditioning duct system are calculated at the nodes in the model. The air-flow then follows along the element which connects the nodes. Since the air-flow along the elements can be related to the pressure difference on the connected nodes, and there is conservation of air-flow at each node, the air-flow and pressure can be calculated by a non-linear simultaneous equation system. This methodology was verified in the laboratory and on-site measurement. From this study, we can understand in advance the interaction of airflow and contaminant concentration between each partitioned space and provide adequate knowledge to maintain a high-quality and health environment for workers.
